Description
What Is Honeycomb? The waxy, golden structure the bees build, fill and seal themselves. Honeycomb is the six-sided wax structure bees build to store their honey, and when you buy it whole, you’re getting the honey exactly the way the bees packaged it, cell by cell, sealed under its own wax cap. Ours is hand cut straight from the hive and cold extracted, so nothing’s been heated or processed out of it.
How Honeycomb Is Made
Worker bees produce wax from special glands on their abdomen and shape it into the familiar hexagon pattern, a shape that packs in the most storage for the least amount of wax. Once a cell is full of ripened honey, the bees cap it with a thin lid of fresh wax to keep it sealed until they need it.
Is Honeycomb Edible?
Completely. The wax itself is edible, so you can eat honeycomb straight through, comb and all, the way you would a piece of nougat. Some people chew it like gum and spit out the wax afterwards.
How to Eat Honeycomb
The simplest way is straight off the block with a knife or spoon, but honeycomb earns its keep on a cheese board too, sitting alongside a sharp cheddar or a soft brie where the honey slowly melts into everything around it. It’s also lovely spooned over yoghurt or porridge.
Our Raw Honeycomb
Our raw honeycomb is single origin and comes straight from our own highest performing WA hives, with nothing done to it beyond hand cutting it to size.
Ingredients
100% raw honeycomb, so honey plus the bees’ own edible wax cappings. Nothing added, nothing removed.
Origin & harvest
Single origin, hand cut straight from Piesseful Bees’ own highest-performing WA hives. Cold extracted, so nothing is heated or processed out of it.
Every batch is independently tested for its Total Activity (TA) rating. You can view the current certificate for this honey here. Not sure what a TA rating actually means? We’ve explained it in plain English.

FAQs
Can you eat the wax in honeycomb?
Yes, beeswax is edible and safe to eat, though it isn’t digested the way honey is.
How long does honeycomb last?
Honeycomb keeps well when it’s stored properly. Keep it sealed in an airtight container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture, and it can stay good for many months. The honey itself doesn’t spoil easily, although the wax can soften and the texture may change over time.
Why does honeycomb sometimes look cloudy or crystallised?
That’s completely normal for raw honey. If you’d like the full explanation, we’ve written about why honey crystallises and what it means for the honey’s quality.

What makes our honey unique
Our beehives are located in real WA bushland. We manage every hive and pull every frame by hand. Harvesting with minimal processing, letting the honey settle on its own, and never straining through a micro-filter. Then we pour it raw. Nothing added, nothing taken away. Just the season, the bush, and the bees doing what they do.
- Hand-pulled frames from our own WA apiaries
- Settled, not strained. Pollen and enzymes stay intact
- Traceable to the location, never blended with any additives

Your honey questions, answered
Why has my honey crystallised?
Totally normal, and actually a good sign. Real, raw honey crystallises over time because of its natural sugar content, it just means there’s nothing added and nothing taken away. If you want it back to liquid, sit the jar in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water for a few minutes and give it a stir. It’ll taste exactly the same.
Is raw honey better than normal honey?
In our books, yes. Most honey you see in supermarkets has been heated and filtered, which is great for shelf life but strips out a lot of the natural pollen, enzymes and flavour along the way. Ours is raw, meaning it’s harvested straight from the hive and never heated past what the bees themselves would experience. You get all the natural goodness, plus that proper honey taste.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yep, we ship to every state and territory across Australia. Just pop in your address at checkout and we’ll get your honey on its way.
Where does the honey come from?
Straight from our own hives across Western Australia. We’re migratory beekeepers, moving our hives through Perth and the South West so our bees can forage from native trees like Jarrah and Marri, then we harvest and bottle it ourselves.
What type of honey is best for me?
Depends what you’re after. Want something bold and packed with wellness benefits? Go for Jarrah, it’s got a smooth caramel and toffee flavour and strong antimicrobial properties. After an everyday honey the whole family loves? Marri (Red Gum) is our most popular for a reason. Got little ones or prefer something gentler? Wandoo or our Creamed honey are lovely and mild.
