Frequently asked
questions

Can I visit your bee farm?

Unfortunately, no. Our apiary sites are mostly private properties and cannot be accessed by the general public.

Where do you source your honey?

Mostly from the bush areas surrounding Perth. We are migratory beekeepers which means we will move our beehives according to what is flowering at different times of the year.

Do you heat treat your honey?

Absolutely NOT! Our honey is 100% raw, just as the bees create it.

Do you artificially feed your bees?

No, we keep our bees as natural as possible. We operate close to 200 beehives so yes, we may lose a hive here and there, but that’s all part of the natural process. We like to keep them just like they would if they were wild bees.

Why is raw honey so expensive?

Because it is not mass produced in a factory somewhere, blended with anything extra. Our honey is harvested directly from odfkjur own beehives and quality tested to ensure it’s only the purest we’re offering our customers. We do everything ourselves, no factory equipment here and we can tell you everything about our honey, ask as many questions as you like!

How do you tell the bees which nectar and pollen to collect?

By doing the waggle dance! Just kidding… we place our beehives on sites where only a certain type of tree is flowering at the time. For example, the Jarrah forests in south west WA, where only Jarrah grows. A lot of research goes into this process; it’s all about knowing the trees and when they flower throughout the seasons. We also have our honey tested to ensure quality and the floral signature (type of honey) is correct.

Do you collect swarms?

No, only due to time constraints. There’s A LOT of other beekeepers that would be happy to help. We suggest posting on your local community pages asking for a local beekeeper to help. Swarms do tend to move themselves on within a day or 2 so wait a little while before contacting someone and please ensure they’re a registered beekeeper!

I have so many bees in our garden but I’m allergic, how can I stop them coming?

This is a tricky one. If you’ve got flowers and a water source, you’re always going to have bees. However, the bees don’t want to hurt you! If you leave them bee (see what I did there), they’ll carry on their way. Bees will only sting if they feel threatened.

I’m interested in beekeeping; can you help me?

We suggest getting in touch with the WA Apiarist Society as a starting point. There’s a lot to learn before just getting some bees in a box. Most importantly, you’ll need to become a registered beekeeper first.

I’ve heard eating local raw honey is good for allergies; is that true?

Yes, but it may not be a ‘cure all’ and may help some better than others. Consuming local honey and pollen can help build your immunity to seasonal allergies. There’s many benefits to eating raw honey, you can read more HERE.

My honey has gone hard, is it ‘off’?

NO! Honey is made of natural sugars and will harden as it gets cold, a totally natural process. Pop your jar in some warm water and it will liquify again. DO NOT MICROWAVE. You can read more about honey crystallisation HERE.

Can I buy your honey as a gift for someone in another state or country?

Absolutely! WA produces some of the best honey in the world so we want you to share it with everyone. Some states/countries do have restrictions bringing honey in so make sure to check those first. We have shipped our honey all over Australia.

Can you post internationally?

Yes, please get in contact to obtain a postage quote.

Can you supply bulk orders?

Yes, in fact it’s the easiest thing for us to do. Need 5, 10, 100kg? No problems, just get in contact with us to organise. Please note stock limits may apply.

I’d like to use your honey for corporate gifts, wedding favours etc. Can I do that?

We LOVE being a part of your events. Please get in contact to discuss your ideas. We can supply our honey pre-packaged in our containers at a wholesale price or we can even fill your own jars/containers, we’re very flexible.

I run a café/restaurant etc. and use honey in our products, can you supply us?

Of course we can! We currently work with a few businesses that we supply regular orders to. Please get in contact to discuss your needs.
